A marketing expert by profession, William may be best known as the marketing genius behind the rapid rise and success of Internet giant Earthlink. He is a veteran of well over 70 film marketing campaigns and a Hollywood Reporter Key Art Award winner for his work for the American Film Institute.
Over the years he’s built and led a number of successful marketing and design teams, and held multiple senior marketing positions including VP Marketing at Earthlink, Creative Director at national magazine publisher eRepublic, President of New Media at a Hollywood studio, Director of Marketing for wireless company Helio (acquired by Virgin Mobile), founding CEO of a direct marketing company that achieved #66 on the Inc 500 by its third year, and Founder and Managing Partner of successful Hollywood advertising agency Orion Communications. He has a reputation of increasing market share and revenues wherever he goes.
William is also an award-winning producer: a Gold Aurora Award and a WorldFest Silver Star for the animated series The Kellys produced for Turner.
While recognized professionally for his marketing prowess and creative team leadership, William’s somewhat secret other life is as a writer. Early on he wrote the occasional magazine article and penned the popular column Mojo Tech for the magazine California Computer News.
Of greater significance was his success writing movies. William’s screenwriting credits include Warner Bros. & Concorde Pictures produced feature film Virtual Seduction. He’s had over a half dozen scripts optioned, some repeatedly, and wrote a work-for-hire script that ended up at Disney. He also does the occasional story consulting for producers.
In 2010 William’s novel A Feast at the Beach was released at a star studded party at the Beverly Hills residence of the Consul General of France. The novel is an evocative Franco-American coming of age tale that takes place in the coastal town of Saint Tropez in Provence, France. He is honored and humbled by the many positive reviews the book has received, including being named “Best in new fiction & non-fiction books” by Bookviews. The book is available at Amazon.com, where it has hit the top 10 bestseller list for its category a number of times. You can also pick it up at most major bookstores.
William is currently working on a collection of short stories with a working title of The Laughter of Small Gods.
Over the years telecommunications companies, movie producers, entrepreneurs, software firms and investment bankers have sought William out for creative leadership and/or marketing advice. Today, he runs the Norton Global Product Design team at Symantec, the 5th largest software company in the world. It keeps him busy.
The rest of the time you can find him wandering the hinterlands of Provence in southern France.
